Peugeot 205 XRD - The Icebreaker :D

Hello my friends. It's me again. I'd like to share a good news with You once again
On friday I bought another 205. The 1987 XRD version with the 1.8 diesel engine. I bought id as my daily driver, because during the winter time CTI and Gentry will be locked in the garage
The car has 221 000 kilometers on the counter. It is almost 100 % original - the previous owner had changed the rear lights and the front indicators and the front springs (he took them from Peugeot 206).
It's equipped with the electric windows, panoramic sunroof, and the central locking.

I have pr0blem with the color. What paint code is it? Some kind of beige I guess, but I'm not quite sure...

Only a few photos now, because the car is being serviced at the moment. But for a 1987 model it looks quite good...

I have never driven a 205 diesel before. Can you say anything about the 1,8 XUD7 engines? Does it have problems with starting in the winter time?
Is it economical? What else should I know about it? I really want to take a good care of this 205 as usual

Very beautifull car.

The XUD7 is a very solid engine, indestructible.
Yes is very economical, under 5l/100 km (my average is 4.8L but I do often short travel, when I do long travel I'm under 4.5L)

For starting, always in quarter of tour !

I heard all the legends about the XUD7 and its low fuel consumption. I hope it's true 5 liters per 100 km sounds like a dream to me

Finally - yesterday I drove the car home. It has very weak brakes, but everything else works fine. Tomorrow I am changing the left front Bendix - the reason, why the brakes doesn't want to work properly.

Today I managed to wash the car and clean the interior a little bit. Here are the fresh pictures. Have a look:

I am talking to myself once again! But I got used to it
Everyday I am working on my XRD project. The car drives very good all the time, but it looks a little bit better. I replaced some interior parts with a help of my collegue - Jozek. And my girlfriend sewed the hole in the drivers seat.

The car has now got a new electric window (there used to be a wooden stick, supporting the passenger window-pane)

We also tried to polish the hood. In five minutes we removed a lot of 24-year old swirls

Yesterday I printed some custom stickers on my plastic hubcaps. They look so ugly, I just can't stand it! After putting those stickers on, they will look much better

Well, that's all for now. I'll let You know when I put the CTI springs on, and the 1.9 GTI brakes. This is the plan for the weekend.

A little update
After busy saturday, the car has new set of front springs. They're taken from the CTI version.
The brakes has also been upgraded. The original Bendix brakes, are replaced by Girlings from 1.9 GTI.

That 205 seems in pretty good conditions, and the engine woks apparently fine (except mastervac rubber tubing, which must be as old as the car ...).
That model is quite well adapted to daily use, especially in winter, compared to luxurious Gentry or CTi !

Well, I guess that many parts of my XRD are still from 1987. Just like the original brake hoses, which tried to kill me Fortunately I'm still alive, and after the brakes failure I bought a set of new brake hoses.

The diesel version is really cheap to drive. It's not fast, I'd rather say it moves like a turtle, but I need a reliable, economical daily driver, not a pocket-rocket

In Poland 205's have a good opinion. There are many of them still on the road, but people treat them like a cheap car, and some of owners don't really care about their cars.
On the other side - people can also appreciate well maintained 205's. I can see that, when I drive my Gentry, or CTI. Situation changes, and 205 is now becoming a youngtimer-classic even here in Poland. A few years ago you could buy a nice GTI for 1000-1500 eur. Now it's 2000-2500, or more.
My friend, who completely restored a 1987 black phase 1 GTI 1.6 is selling the car abroad for 5000 euro. And I can say, the car is worth its price.
