Peugeot 205 XRD - The Icebreaker :D

I came back from my summer holiday yesterday. All the time I was driving my good old pal - XRD. Once again it proved that Peugeot made one of the best diesel engines ever.

The CTI and Gentry are standing alone and forgotten in the garage. Maybe it's time to take one of them for a trip too?

Meanwhile, I'm still using my XRD as a daily driver. here are some fresh pictures from November.

Lately I have changed the vacuum pump, and before the winter I am going to change the oil, and all the filters. Just in case

I forgot about this topic for a while, but now I'm back
Let's see how the XRD changed for the last few months...

First thing: winter setup. I put the old & rusty Peugeot 206 steel wheels, with BF Goodrich 175/65 R14 tyres.



Then I got a gift from my friend. A lovely set of brand new mudflaps


So I put them on the front. This is what the car needed... (the dirt on the door comes from the pre-mudflaps era)


The XRD caused no trouble at all, so I just kept on driving. Here are some winter pictures of it:


On a mountain trip to Szczyrk...




Came back dirty as hell. So I had to visit the car wash:





Meanwhile, I bought some new device. The remote control with all the necessary stuff:



Last week: first spring washing. Yay!


And new set of Kayaba front shock absorbers for my XRD & CTI.


On a trip to the giant car junkyard, we met a little friend:

Hey, it's me again! Just wanted to let You know, that my 205 XRD has safely travelled all the Balkans during the Peugeot Balkan Rallye, 30th anniversary Peugeot 205 trip.

We've been to Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Croatia. The diesel has made over 4000 kilometers and everything was absolutely fine. Except a small oil consumption (I had to refill about a 1 litre of oil during the whole trip), the car ran like a dream. Well, maybe it was not too powerful on the albanian mountain roads, but it was the only car, that had no mechanical problems.

Funny fact: when all the gasoline engines were overheating, my XRD only once reached the 90 degrees temperature!

Fuel consumption: 745 kilometers in Albania, mostly mountains, , sharp corners, rapid hills, heavy terrain, and city traffic - 5,4 litres per 100 kilometers.

Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia: mountains, motorways, and city traffic: 5.1 litres per 100 kilometers

Bosnia -> Poland: Highways, and motorways, with a short stop in Budapest: 4.9 litres per 100 kilometers. I made 1022 kilometers on a full fuel tank!

Gazoil? You mean diesel fuel? It's 1.3 - euro per one litre.

In the July i took my diesel for another road trip. This time I visited Peliesac Peninsula in Croatia with my friend Jozek, a Gentry TCT driver.

Before the vacation, I bought two new Yokohama A Drive tyres. They did really good in Albania, so I gave them another chance

After changing tyres, I also changed the front right wheel ball bearing and checked the wheel geometry. All was OK, so I could start another journey with my 205

We started our 1300 km trip in Krakow, and drove through Slovakia, Hungary, and Bosnia.

After another 20 hours of drive, we got back home. Our Peugeots did really well, no service during all the 2700 kilometers was required. These cars are really reliable, packable, and so much fun to drive!

I am very happy to share this photos and my 205 passion with all of You guys!

The new wheel setup for winter I replaced the 5.5x13 Rallye wheels for the Gentry SMR alloys with Fulda Montero Kristall tyres.

I also decided to put the screws to the wheelcaps, to make sure, they won't get away from me anymore




And here is the comparision between 13, and 14 inch.

It's getting colder, and colder, but my diesel starts perfect every time!
